About this ebook

Perfect for fans of Naomi Novik and Brigid Kemmerer, this lush, dark romantasy novel about monsters and magic, set on the banks of a cursed lake, will draw you in and refuse to get go.

When Violeta Graceling and her younger brother Arien arrive at the haunted Lakesedge estate, they expect to find a monster. Leta knows the terrifying rumors about Rowan Sylvanan, who drowned his entire family when he was a boy. But neither the estate nor the monster are what they seem.

As Leta falls for Rowan, she discovers he is bound to the Lord Under, the sinister death god lurking in the black waters of the lake. A creature to whom Leta is inexplicably drawn... Now, to save Rowan—and herself—Leta must confront the darkness in her past, including unraveling the mystery of her connection to the Lord Under.

I really expected to love this one. After all, everyone on Goodreads, Bookstagram, and Booktok had raved about it. It boasted a gothic and atmospheric setting. I was so excited. But sadly, i didn't love the writing style. I didn't connect to any of the characters. It had such a good premise, but the actual execution felt so recycled. I mean, how many times can we read about the same characters stuck in a mysterious mansion with a brooding love interest? It needed more to set it apart.

Eh. I had a bit of a hard time getting through this. Violeta, or Leta was really annoying in the beginning though she got just a little better when you find out the reason for why she acts the way she does with her brother. But then it was the tired old trope of girl having secret power and she is the only one that can save the bad boy that is being eaten by corruption (literally in this case) and gives it all up. Just once, I would like to see it be more of a group effort. I really am not a fan

Lakesedge is an amazing YA fantasy that I can see becoming the next A Court of Thorns and Roses. I thought that this book was a standalone, but when I got to the cliffhanger at the end, I realized that there has to be a sequel. I am totally adding the sequel to my TBR list, and I will read it as soon as it comes out! I need to know what happens next!
