Cheryl Thompson is a Nashville-based songwriter, vocal coach, and educator with over two decades of experience in the music industry. Her songs have been recorded by artists across pop, country, and Americana, earning placements on the Billboard Hot 100 and multiple streaming certifications. She has served as a staff writer for two major publishing houses and has taught songwriting and melody craft at Belmont University's School of Music and Berklee Online.
Thompson's approach to teaching melody grows out of her conviction that memorable hook writing is not an innate gift but a learnable skill. Over years of observing her own process and the processes of the writers she has mentored, she developed the structured methodology presented in this book—a system designed to give songwriters at any level a reliable path from idea to finished melody.
Her work has been recognized by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and the Grammy Museum's Songwriter Showcase program. She is a frequent guest lecturer at songwriting conferences and a contributing writer for *American Songwriter* magazine, where her column on melodic craft has run since 2018.
*The Melody Method* is her first book. She lives in East Nashville with her partner, two cats who have strong opinions about her chord progressions, and a growing collection of vintage microphones that she insists she does not have a problem with.
