About this ebook
When winter funding threatens to close the Alton Civic Conservatory for good, translator Nia Ramires is hired to restore the institution's faded bilingual plaques and historic labels before the spring reopening. Landscape gardener Theo Vance has one season to revive the conservatory's neglected stone paths, overgrown courtyards, and cracked greenhouse beds or lose the municipal contract that keeps his small firm alive. Forced to share the same cramped worksite in a city landmark built of iron, brick, and stubborn memory, they begin with practical arguments about wording, plants, and deadlines. But as they repair the conservatory's public face and hidden damage, they also confront private fears Nia has kept sealed since a public mistake cost her confidence, and Theo has buried since a family illness taught him to expect every good thing to be temporary. Their careful partnership becomes a promise to choose steadiness, honesty, and each other before the first visitors walk back through the doors.
