About this ebook

Screen-Savvy Kids is a detailed, practical guide to Raising Confident Kids in a Screen-Filled World for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Confidence Crisis, The Four Pillars of Real Confidence, The Confidence Audit, What the Feed Is Doing to Your Child's Brain, The Family Screen Constitution, Age by Age: A Smart Screen Plan from Toddlers to Teens, The Comparison Cure, The Confidence Repertoire, Seven Mistakes That Quietly Erode Your Child's Confidence, Model the Life You Want, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

JOHN HOWARD is a parent educator and writer who has spent more than fifteen years helping families navigate one of modern parenting's most difficult questions: how to raise confident, capable children when screens are everywhere. A former classroom teacher with a master's degree in child development, he has led hundreds of workshops in schools, community centers, and workplaces on topics ranging from managing meltdowns to building healthy digital habits.

His approach is grounded in the research but firmly rooted in the real world—the world of homework battles, negotiation-happy teenagers, and parents who are doing their best with the time they have. Over the years, he has worked with thousands of families and has learned that what parents need is not more judgment or another set of rigid rules, but clear principles, practical tools, and permission to be imperfect.

As a father of three, John writes from the trenches as much as from the literature. His work has appeared in parenting publications and education blogs, and he speaks regularly to parent groups about raising kids who are confident online and off. *Screen-Savvy Kids* grew out of the questions parents asked him most often—the same questions at the center of this book. He lives with his family, their well-used basketball, and a charging station in the kitchen where every phone sleeps at night.
