About this ebook

Don Quixote is so mesmerized by reading the romances of chivalry that he fixates on becoming a knight errant and further pursues adventures along with his loyal squire, Sancho Panza. As they travel the world together, the aging Quixote's fancy leads them awry, tilting at windmills, fighting with friars, and distorting the rural Spanish landscape into a dreamland of impenetrable fortresses and wicked sorcerers. Simultaneously, the relationship between the two men grows in captivating subtlety. Published more than four centuries ago, Miguel de Cervantes's classic mock-epic masterwork was an immediate success. Regarded as one of the greatest works of fiction, Don Quixote is a typical picaresque novel that has been an inspiration within the domain of art, literature and music and continues to be admired by its readers.

About the author

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (29 September 1547 (assumed) – 22 April 1616) was the most important and celebrated figure in Spanish literature and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. Much of his life was spent in poverty and obscurity, which led to many of his early works being lost. Despite this, his influence and literary contribution are reflected by the fact that Spanish is often referred to as ' the language of Cervantes.'
