I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It is a prequel for the Heretic's Daughter, and generally had a different tone and pace from that book. But it was a part of history that I'm not very familiar with, so it was worth reading.

A bit more desperate and bloody than I expected, but the plot was sound and compelling with a very satisfying twist at the end. A well-written worthwhile read.
