Brian Miles is a health and wellness writer who has spent the last fifteen years helping busy people build small, sustainable habits that make their everyday lives measurably better. His own turning point came in his early thirties, when a long stretch of desk-bound work left him chronically tired despite plenty of sleep. The fix, it turned out, was not more rest but more walking — a discovery that became the foundation of his work and, eventually, of this book.
Brian has written essays and practical guides for wellness publications, corporate wellbeing programs, and his own popular newsletter about the science and daily pleasure of walking. In the course of his reporting he has spoken with behavioral scientists, podiatrists, and movement researchers, and he is a firm believer that the most effective health advice is the kind people can actually keep. He writes for readers who are skeptical of quick fixes and short on time, and he has never met a problem a walk didn't improve at least slightly.
He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, two sons, and a border collie named Noodle who holds strong opinions about walk duration. When he's not walking — which is rarely — he's usually planning the next route, reading about movement science, or defending the position that a walk is a valid answer to almost any question, including ones it wasn't asked about.
*The Walking Habit* is his first book.
