I recieved an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books. I am leaving an honest review voluntarily. I felt this book was a bit of a letdown. After reading a Halloween advent calendar one, I was excited to try a Chridtmas one, and even more excited it was a horror. However, I just didn't feel this one delivered. The beginning was great, and I was eager to read more, but after about 40 percent, I felt the story was plodding along at a pace that was both too slow and too fast. Each chapter was just too short, and a lot of parts were left out and at the same time, things were just too slow from day to day. I think focusing on just one person a day was a mistake, as in many of thr lager chapters, it caused a lot of information to be left out that could have been interesting to see. Also, while I love an open ending, this one was just too open. There was no real conclusion as to why this happened or why the family was targeted, and not enough information was given that we could potentially put it together ourselves. My final issue was that all of the characters sounded the same. You have two kids of different ages, a mom, and a dad, and sometimes I had to go back to the beginning of a chapter to remember who was the focus, because they all sounded exactly the same.
