A loose adaptation of fact and fiction creating a history of an oppressed nation that weathered the storms of genocide and war and the give-take of tradition preservation versus life preservation.

I have read this book not from an ebook or online reader but I read this book from an actual library.....I want to rate the book 5 stars so i gave it 5 stars not because of the length of pages.....when I was done reading the book, I got the chance of a lifetime at the age of 17....I was in high school when my grandmother took me to Poland and Germany on a mediation trip for her....we got the chance to see auschwitz and birkenau, which by far was the hardest thing for me to do....

Mitchner was a master of writing epic novels that blend true historical people with fictional characters to tell the story of all people. Poland contains the thrilling history of greed, power and repression of the people of this area over an 800 year span.
About the author
James A. Michener was one of the world’s most popular writers, the author of more than forty books of fiction and nonfiction, including the Pulitzer Prize–winning Tales of the South Pacific, the bestselling novels The Source, Hawaii, Alaska, Chesapeake, Centennial, Texas, Caribbean, and Caravans, and the memoir The World Is My Home. Michener served on the advisory council to NASA and the International Broadcast Board, which oversees the Voice of America. Among dozens of awards and honors, he received America’s highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in 1977, and an award from the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities in 1983 for his commitment to art in America. Michener died in 1997 at the age of ninety.
