Do not touch the sword. Do not turn the key. Do not open the gate.

Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange alchemical powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been stealing from the Undying Queen for most of her twenty-four years. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it’s bound to come undone.

When Saeris is caught stealing something she shouldn’t, she accidentally reopens a dormant gateway between realms and is whisked away to a land of ice and snow. There, she discovers that the Fae—creatures of legend and nightmare—are not only real, but they are caught up in a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.

After inadvertently binding herself to a secretive and incredibly powerful Fae warrior named Kingfisher, Saeris quickly learns that he will use her secret magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him... or her.

Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details...

Trigger warning: Quicksilver describes graphic violence and adult situations, and is for readers 17+.

A solid read, if you're into smutty, east to digest fantasy books. However, the use of "male" and "female" throughout the book gave me the biggest ick. Pay attention to it as you read, and you'll see EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Honestly, I don't even know if I can read the rest of the series because this small thing truly ruined the whole experience for me. Such a weird thing to dislike, but it took me out of the story every time and I really, really disliked it.

enjoyable, but the MC is insufferable. Her moods swing wildly around with little to no warning and she acts with the impulsiveness of a spoiled child, which seems wrong on such a character with her age, skill, and life experience. I want to like her but I find myself thinking "let's just pretend that's not what she did/said" a LOT while I'm reading. Male lead also annoying but at least he has a reason. still, I am invested in the story. I enjoy that there are some refreshingly novel ideas to the world building and i do want to see where this is going. as I stayed up to 5 am reading the first day I obviously cannot claim to dislike the book 🤣
