Cheryl Payton is a travel writer and wardrobe stylist who has spent the past fifteen years proving that everything you need for a month in twelve countries fits in one carry-on. Her packing guides and travel essays have appeared in national travel and lifestyle publications, and her in-person workshops have helped frequent flyers, honeymooners, first-time backpackers, and semester-abroad students cut their luggage in half without sacrificing a single good outfit.
She began her career in fashion retail and editorial styling before a 2008 backpacking trip through Southeast Asia taught her a lesson no fitting room ever could: what you leave at home matters as much as what you bring. She now divides her time between Portland, Oregon, and wherever her next flight is headed, and packs her own carry-on in about twenty minutes—a fact she is happy to prove to anyone who doubts her methods.
The Carry-On Capsule Wardrobe is her first book. She is currently at work on a companion guide to the capsule approach for business travel. You can follow her packing experiments, seasonal capsule lists, and travel dispatches through her newsletter and on social media, where she is best known for photographing her open suitcase on the bed of another hotel room, ready for whatever comes next.
