Elena turned the tiny golden key, and a hauntingly beautiful melody filled the precinct's bullpen. The tune was familiar, tugging at memories she couldn't quite place. Around her, the usual chaos of the San Antonio Police Department continued—phones ringing, officers typing reports, the constant hum of activity that had become the soundtrack to her life for the past eight years.

"Another secret admirer?" Detective Marcus Rivera asked, leaning against her desk with a knowing smirk. Marcus had been her partner for three years, long enough to know that Elena's dedication to her work left little room for romance.
