Vincent Marziale is a visual artist and art educator with over fifteen years of experience teaching drawing and painting to students of all ages and skill levels. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Arts in Art Education from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Marziale began his career as a freelance illustrator, working on editorial projects, book covers, and concept art for independent game studios. His illustration work has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Wired. After a decade in the commercial art world, he transitioned into full time teaching, first at the secondary level and later as an adjunct instructor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
His teaching philosophy centers on the belief that drawing is a learnable skill, not an innate gift, and that structured, incremental practice produces reliable results for any motivated student. He developed the curriculum for this book over the course of seven years, testing and refining each exercise with hundreds of beginner students in classroom settings and private workshops.
Marziale is also the creator of The Daily Sketch, a free online challenge that encourages artists to complete a short drawing exercise every day. The challenge has grown to include over thirty thousand active participants worldwide. He lives in Portland, Oregon, where he continues to teach, exhibit his work, and maintain a daily sketchbook practice.
