About this ebook

She’s building a future on his land. He has to take it away.

When former rodeo rider Jordan Matthews inherits a ranch from the father he never knew, he plans to sell it fast—until he learns the deal comes with one condition: the property must be empty. Lil McAllen refuses to leave. After losing her father and her home, Lil has rebuilt everything on that land—for herself and her younger sister. Walking away isn’t an option.

If Jordan can’t force her out, the deal collapses—and with it, his only chance to leave the past behind for good. Then the ranch becomes a target. Fences are cut. Equipment is sabotaged. Livestock disappears. With danger closing in, Jordan has no choice but to stay and protect what isn’t his—working side by side with the woman who stands in his way.

Lil doesn’t take risks. Jordan is nothing but risk. But the longer he stays, the harder it is to ignore the truth—the man who came to take everything might be the one she can’t afford to lose.

This was very much not what I was expecting from a romance novel. Romantic suspense or mystery with romantic elements I think are far better descriptors just my opinion. That being said the book is good. There’s a lot of back and forth and then the danger elements are unsettling. Two suspects are set up as culprits from the start. After that it’s just who is more likely to gain from the actions taken. Everything is temporary until it’s not and there’s a bit of emotional whiplash. Probably from r

Terrific cowboy romance coupled with underhanded crimes on a Montana ranch. The ranch is being leased by sisters and the new owner, by way of an inheritance, is seriously considering selling it. Damages to the ranch begin to happen out of the blue at the same time as a sale is being considered. Lil, the rancher, starts to make Jordan, the rancher, rethink selling. Theirs is a slowly developing relationship. The mystery of the crimes keeps you guessing until the end. I voluntarily read an ARC.
