Juhani Aho (1861–1921) was Finland’s most celebrated prose writer and a defining figure in Finnish literary history. His novella Rautatie (The Railway, 1884), a tender portrait of rural Finland confronting industrialisation, is considered one of the founding works of Finnish literature.
Haberdash Books is dedicated to bringing overlooked works of European and world literature into English. We specialise in nineteenth and early twentieth-century fiction from lesser-translated languages and traditions.
