A very well-written book analysing parts of Pakistan that the international
media, and even the Pakistani elite and common folk themselves may be lost
upon. The experience of this former Pakistani diplomat shows. The author, a
former Pakistani ambassador to the US, having defended Pakistan for
harbouring Osama Bin Laden, culprit of the 9/11 attacks now takes no
apologetic approach to any affairs affecting either Pakistan, or the
world's relation to Pakistan, remaining impartial throughout. A must-read
for those interested in South Asian affairs and definitely educational for
those with an interest in the "War of Terrorism," human rights
violations/crises and/or global geopolitics.

Husain Haqqani is Pakistan's leading dissident public intellectual. In addition to serving as Pakistan's ambassador to the United States from 2008-2011, he was an adviser to three civilian prime ministers, including Nawaz Sharif and the late Benazir Bhutto. Haqqani currently lives in exile in the United States, where he is Senior Fellow and Director for South and Central Asia at the Hudson Institute. He is co-editor of the journal Current Trends in Islamist Ideology. His books include Pakistan Between Mosque and Military; Magnificent Delusions: US, Pakistan and an Epic History of Misunderstanding; and India v Pakistan: Why can't we just be friends?
