Leo Zimmerman has had a crush on his curvy friend Kylie Jenkins since forever, so when he discovers the girl with a flair for candy making has a newfound plan to rebel against her overbearing parents, he’s determined to be the one to help her carry it out. Who better than himself to show her the ropes of letting loose?

Sure, taking her to her first high school party, helping her sneak out of the house, or watching a sunset together isn’t exactly a hardship, but much harder is masking his feelings the more time they spend together. And when he suggests adding “a first date” to Kylie’s plan and she accepts...suddenly all his dreams seem to be coming true.

But Leo’s got a secret that could change everything between them, and it’s only a matter of time before it comes to the surface.

I really enjoyed this sweet YA read. Kylie and Leo are so cute together and Kylie's list of rebellions is amusing. The only problem I had with this story is the fact that it's a little hard to believe that such a good girl could actually exist. Kylie's a senior in high school who have never been on a date, never gone to a party, never had a boyfriend? College would crush a girl like this. This is the story of what happens when the good girl decides to rebel with the help of her best friend Leo. It's fun, it's sweet, and it's definitely worth the read. I highly recommend it.

This is my first book by this author and I loved her writing style. I was drawn in from the very beginning. Leo has crushed on Kylie for years, even when he wasn't even on her radar. When Kylie creates a list of things she'd like to do to rebel a little and Leo finds it, he convinces her to let him help. Their connection continues to grow while they are stepping outside their boxes. This book was light on the drama, which is refreshing for a YA story. This was a cute, fun, easy read that can standalone. I'm definitely adding The Rules of Persuasion to my TBR!!! *This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*

4 stars — This was perfect for what I was looking for — something light (but not completely without depth), cute, and easy. Kylie was pretty easy to like — a bit of a goody goody, but I can connect with that. I loved her passion for cooking, and I loved how her rebelling brought her out of her shell. I was a bit disappointed in her for some of her reactions at the end, but it felt kind of like teenagers — and it wasn’t like I wasn’t also annoyed with Leo. Leo was freaking adorable though. I just wanted to hug him so many times. I loved that you could feel his kind soul shining through. And his crush on Kylie? Adorable. Did he make boneheaded decisions? Oh yes. But I still loved him. I did feel for the situation the two of them were in. There were definitely better ways to handle it along the way, but who among us actually gets it right all the time? They were seriously cute together though. I could feel their connection, and I kind of liked that Kylie didn’t initially see him that way, but it turned around once her eyes were opened. All in all, it was exactly what I was looking for, so success!
