This one starts off great. An intriguing mystery and some wonderful characterization of the lead Bobby Jones - I especially enjoyed his conversation with his father as the two speak past each other. But after about 5 chapters, with the introduction of the unremarkable Lady Francis "Frankie" Derwent, the novel devolves into a Tommy and Tuppence knockoff but without the charm. The answer to the eponymous question is quite nifty but the conclusion becomes farcical, especially the monologuing by the murderer as they explain everything - it makes the "detectives" seem inconsequential. It's rare Christie that misses her mark, especially a novel from this era when she was at the height of her art ("Murder On The Orient Express" was the novel that preceded this one) but this one does. It's like she became disenchanted with it part of the way through.
