After being rescued by Arjuna and Bhima, Duryodhana felt deep shame and hopelessness and decided to end his life. Karna, Dushashana, and Shakuni tried to console him, but he would not listen. While sitting silently on kusha grass, his mind suddenly changed, and he gave up the thought of suicide and resolved to fight the war. Later traditions explain this sudden change as the result of a supernatural experience in Patala-loka (Nether Word).
