Let me first say that I absolutely adore Steve Cavanagh and his style. But this particular book was disappointing even though the intrigue was still gripping and fascinating. However, when an author pulls a Game of Thrones-worthy stunt and kills a beloved character, somehow it should at least feel justified by the plot and somewhat realistic, since this isn't fantasy or sci-fi. When one of the sharpest, smartest, most alert characters dies in a very unrealistically dull manner, it was just so incredibly disappointing. Eddie's character arc was finally approaching that point where he would maybe stop beating himself up for being a horrible loser (as he feels) and would actually get the appreciation he deserves from someone equally admirable. Makes you wonder why the author hates his lead character so much. Also, I know Cavanagh isn't American, he uses words that aren't American even though the action happens in NYC. But this book had more disconnected points than others.
