For those who came in late-- Volume One of the Phantom dailies: not quite *the* very beginning of Phantom stories but pretty close (as you'll read in the intro). And it is a bargain here compared to print (although I highly recommend Hermes Press' print offerings as they are both lovingly crafted and a joy to read in-hand). A very fun read that includes the first two years' of King Features Syndicate's daily newspaper strip of the Phantom's adventures with Diana Palmer, fighting pirates, and rescuing those in need. You get some of the 400-year-old Phantom lore mixed in (possibly my favorite parts of Phantom stories) and some great character exchanges. If you're familiar with the '90s Phantom movie, you'll recognize a number of plots and characters originated here (I'm assuming - I'm not familiar with any of the content published prior), and these include: Diana's "beau", the all-women airplane gang, pirates(!), Phantom in a NYC taxi, and so on. Disclaimer: a small bit of content (that sometimes extends beyond this volume) could, and sometimes should, be deemed offensive as it was written before we came to our senses regarding such things: certain kinds of renderings of indigenous people, and language. Personally, I prefer reprintings of older content to be unaltered, but I do appreciate seeing a heads up, so here you go. If you end up enjoying this, know there are a LOT more volumes. And they are much more fun to read in print (I'm reading a later volume now and can vouch for the quality and experience). If price becomes an issue, just grab the first one that's within financial reach and start reading.
