About this ebook

This delightfully disastrous queer YA rom-com is a perfect read for fans of Jenny Han, Morgan Matson, and Sandhya Menon.

When Nozomi Nagai pictured the ideal summer romance, a fake one wasn’t what she had in mind.

That was before she met the perfect girl. Willow is gorgeous, glamorous, and…heartbroken? And when she enlists Nozomi to pose as her new girlfriend to make her ex jealous, Nozomi is a willing volunteer.

Because Nozomi has a master plan of her own: one to show Willow she’s better than a stand-in, and turn their fauxmance into something real. But as the lies pile up, it’s not long before Nozomi’s schemes take a turn toward disaster…and maybe a chance at love she didn’t plan for.

  • Fake Relationship: Nozomi’s plan is simple: pretend to be Willow’s girlfriend to make an ex jealous, then turn their fauxmance into the real thing. What could possibly go wrong?
  • Funny Contemporary Romance: Full of hilarious schemes, laugh-out-loud moments, and the kind of romantic disasters that are anything but simple.
  • Japanese American Heroine: A sweet, funny, and hopelessly romantic teen trying to write her own love story one wild San Francisco summer.
  • Sapphic Young Adult Fiction: A heartfelt and funny LGBTQ+ romance for teens perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Casey McQuiston.

Nozomi meets the girl of her dreams, but Willow has just gone through a bad breakup. They agree to fake date, to make her ex jealous. Nozomi hopes Willow will realize they belong together, and get over her feelings for her ex. Will Nozomi's dreams come true, or will her lies catch up with her? This entertaining love quadrangle engrossed me from the beginning. I enjoyed Nozomi's optimism and determination. Despite the light tone of the novel, she's struggling with some deeply emotional experiences. Ultimately, this is a book about learning to be true to yourself, and I loved seeing Nozomi's transformation. Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
