About this ebook

Welcome to Hanover House….

Psychiatrist Evelyn Talbot has dedicated her life to solving the mysteries of the antisocial mind. Why do psychopaths act as they do? How do they come to be? Why don’t they feel any remorse for the suffering they cause? And are there better ways of spotting and stopping them?

After having been kidnapped, tortured and left for dead when she was just a teenager—by her high school boyfriend—she’s determined to understand how someone she trusted so much could turn on her. So she’s established a revolutionary new medical health center in the remote town of Hilltop, Alaska, where she studies the worst of the worst.

But not everyone in Hilltop is excited to have Hanover House and its many serial killers in the area. Alaskan State Trooper, Sergeant Amarok, is one of them. And yet he can’t help feeling bad about what Evelyn has been through. He’s even attracted to her. Which is partly why he worries.

He knows what could happen if only one little thing goes wrong...

Couldn't change any of the default settings so the print colour, page set up and font size rendered the book unreadable.

I thought this story was very compelling. It is a great prequel and teaser to the upcoming series. Evelyn is a psychiatrist that studies the worst criminals; those that kill for joy and seem to feel no remorse. As a teenager, her best friends were killed brutally by her boyfriend and then he attacked her. Since her escape, she has made it her mission to understand why the most normal seeming individuals become horrible killers. She is assembling the killers she studies in Alaska at "Hanover House." Another point of view in the book comes from her attacker, Jasper, who still roams free. He had left the country, had plastic surgery, and has returned to find Evelyn. The other viewpoint is from the Alaskan police officer who is against the house being built in Alaska, but he becomes Evelyn's protector. The chemistry between Evelyn and Sergeant Amarok is great. I love his willingness to be patient with her situation. Also, seeing the psychopath's thoughts as he's tracking her provided so much depth to the story. I think this really sets up what will come in the future novels. You'll be on the edge of your seat and begging for more at the end. I had a little bit of a hangover at the end from the excitement. I can't wait for future installments. I thought the multiple points of view were well crafted. I was never confused by who was speaking. It's suspense at its finest. There really isn't mystery to the story since you get the view point of the attacker. But it keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
