The Sacred Ground

I hear the water before I ever see the well.

It’s a sound no one else seems to notice—soft, steady, and impossible to ignore. As a land surveyor, I’ve always trusted facts, history, and the ground beneath my feet. What I’m hearing in Holly Well Springs doesn’t fit any of that.

The land here remembers things it shouldn’t.

As I work to assess a forest expansion, I uncover secrets buried far deeper than maps can show—ones tied to a sacred burial ground, a legacy my grandmother never spoke of, and a responsibility I never asked for. The more I learn, the more the town’s magic seems to recognize me… whether I’m ready or not.

Ben Harper is the one steady thing in all of it. Loving him feels less like falling and more like standing on solid ground for the first time.

But the truth comes with a cost.

Accepting what the land is asking of me would mean walking away from the future I planned. Refusing it could mean losing everything this town holds dear—including the magic that keeps it alive.

Some choices change your path.

Others decide who you are.
