About this ebook

An “exhilarating trip through Italian American Mafia history” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) this is Sal Polisi’s riveting and darkly hilarious chronicle of the inner workings and larger-than-life characters inside the New York Mob.

The Mob was the biggest, richest business in America…until it was destroyed from within by drugs, greed, and the decline of its traditional crime Family values.

And by guys like Sal Polisi.

As a member of New York’s feared Colombo Family, Polisi ran The Sinatra Club, an illegal after-hours gambling den that was a magic kingdom of crime and a hangout for up-and-coming mobsters like John Gotti and the three wiseguys immortalized in Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellas—Henry Hill, Jimmy Burke, and Tommy DeSimone. But the nonstop thrills of Polisi’s criminal glory days abruptly ended when he was busted for drug trafficking. Already sickened by the bloodbath that engulfed the Mob as it teetered toward extinction, he flipped and became one of a breed he had loathed all his life—a rat. In this shocking, pulse-pounding, and, at times, darkly hilarious first-person chronicle, he paints a never-before-seen picture of a larger-than-life secret underworld that, thanks to guys like him, no longer exists.

very interesting book, but like almost every single other mob guy who writes a book about life in the mafia, Polisi seems to leave out especially unflattering details. for example, he admits to having an explosive, violent temper and beat up alot of guys, admits that his nickname was Sally Ubatz which translates to crazy Sally, seems to admit to castrating a guy when ordered to do so, and yet we are supposed to believe that he never committed murder? I personally found that hard to believe. I also found it somewhat odd that he referred to Gambino wiseguy Tommy Agro as "Tommy Argo." he names names and attributes horrific crimes to numerous other mobsters, yet misnames a guy he claimed to be friendly with? I don't mean to sound overly critical, as I enjoyed reading the book. You'll walk away from the book fully aware of how awful, senseless, and torturous like as a wiseguy really is. Definitely not the romantic adventure depicted in many movies.

I've read a lot of mob books, and this is one of the best. It's a real page turner with a cast of characters small enough to keep up with.

After you read this book, start watching "Inside the American Mob". This book really opens ones eyes to how it really went. I don't want to give it away, but you won't be able to stop reading. The authors leave you thinking "What next??"
