About this ebook

This book presents compassion as a measurable, teachable, and structurally essential force in clinical practice, education, organisational life, and public health. It draws on interdisciplinary research, meta analytic evidence, and direct experience in clinical and organisational settings to show how compassion is received and how fear and shame can block it. It also examines how systems can foster compassionate leadership. A central feature of Compassion from Others is its commitment to multiethnic, multifaith, and culturally plural perspectives, recognising the many ways compassion is understood and expressed across communities. Integrating insights from psychiatry, psychology, public health, and the medical humanities, it offers an inclusive and culturally sensitive account, written in accessible language, for clinicians, educators, policymakers, researchers, and all readers who view compassion as a foundation of human flourishing and a public health imperative.
