Book Four takes a different path. Exchange-traded funds — ETFs — are the instrument that allows you to build a complete, diversified, low-cost portfolio with relatively few decisions and minimal ongoing maintenance. For many investors, an ETF-based portfolio is the best possible answer. For others, ETFs form the foundation on which more active strategies are layered.
This book covers how ETFs work, the different types available, how to build a sensible portfolio with them, and the costs and considerations that are often overlooked. It is relevant whether you are building your first investment account or rethinking a portfolio that has grown unnecessarily complicated.
I grew up near London, England before moving to Canada when I was 13, though I had a modest upbringing I was surrounded by some of the wealthiest members of society from an early age. That environment gave me an education that no classroom could fully replicate.
While I was earning my degree in Economics I began trading stocks and options learning the basics of trading. After earning over 700% on a few call options I was hooked on learning more, expanding my knowledge on many different strategies and investment vehicles over the years.
By my mid-twenties I was working with directors and C-suite executives as a trusted analyst at multinational corporations, companies operating in the billions. This gave me a front-row seat to how major businesses are managed and how money moves at the highest levels.
The Market Mentor Series is my way of passing on some of the knowledge I’ve gained while being written for everyone, and backed by a lifetime of having real money on the line.
