About this ebook

Three generations of a Nottinghamshire farming family, from the coming of the canal to a granddaughter who wants something none of them can name. The magistrates ordered the whole edition seized and burned in 1915 for obscenity; it was not published in England again for eleven years. This edition is bound with a gallery of 54 plates of painting, 1842–1922, by Edvard Munch, John Collier, Kristian Zahrtmann and John Everett Millais, on harvest and farm subjects.
