About this ebook

Ready for the Future or Stuck in the Past?

Millennials have been condemned as lazy, entitled, disloyal, and disrespectful and needing constant hand-holding. But Crystal Kadakia—a Millennial herself as well as an organizational development consultant and two-time TEDx speaker—shows that not only are these negative stereotypes dead wrong, but each one conceals a positive workplace practice that forward-looking companies must adopt if they are to endure. She illuminates how the advent of digital technology is the crucial root cause of many Millennial behaviors and offers a guide for what our traditional workplace needs to do to attract, engage, and retain modern talent.

I bought The Millennial Myth after attending one of Crystal Kadakia's keynotes. Something that hooked me early in the book was when Crystal applied a few millennial stereotypes to another subgroup. For example, "All women are lazy and entitled." Statements like that would never be acceptable, but stereotypes like these have been present and vocalized in the workplace for millennials as well as other generations. I consider myself a high potential millennial. I worked for a major consulting firm where I successfully consulted to over 20 public companies in less than a year. Although considered one of the best companies in the industry, I was clear in what would retain me but my employer was too prehistoric to meet my needs. As a result, they lost a great employee and never fully harnessed my potential. I've met a lot of people that would benefit greatly by reading this book and/or seeing Crystal speak. I would recommend parents of millennials to read this book, especially if their children are in college, or early in their careers. In Summary: If you're a Millennial or Gen Z, I'd recommend this book to help you be more equipped to handle stereotypes more professionally when communicating to discriminatory people. If you're from one of the elder generations, I'd recommend this book so you can see modern talent more clearly. This book is not just about Millennials, it's about all generations because everyone has been affected by digital technology.
