Diane Cervantes is a writer, writing coach, and the founder of The Daily Page, a community of over fifteen thousand writers who practice their craft every day. She has spent the past decade studying the science of habit formation and its application to creative work, drawing on her master's degree in behavioral psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her essays on writing, creativity, and productivity have appeared in *The Paris Review Daily*, *Literary Hub*, *Writer's Digest*, and *The Millions*. She is the author of two previous books: *Your First Draft Is Not Your Last* (2018), a practical guide to revision for beginning writers, and *The Artist's Wake-Up Call* (2020), a collection of short essays on overcoming creative block.
Diane has taught writing workshops at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival, The Writing Center in Bethesda, and the San Miguel Writers' Conference. She also offers one-on-one coaching for writers working on book-length projects, with a particular focus on helping perfectionists finish their first drafts.
She lives in Austin, Texas, with her partner and two rescue dogs. She writes every morning from 6:30 to 7:15, rain or shine, and believes that a single sentence written today is infinitely better than a perfect unwritten sentence dreamed about for years.
