Backhanded Compliments: A Sapphic Sports Romance

Imani Brooks built her tennis career on cold discipline and flawless structure. She is exactly one tournament away from claiming the number-one ranking in the world, and she knows exactly who she has to destroy to get it: Celeste Navarro.

Celeste is everything Imani isn't—charming, universally beloved by the press, and the reigning queen of the court. But underneath the effortless smile and perfect serve-and-volley game, Celeste is hiding a career-ending secret that could shatter her legacy.

When a rain delay traps them in an underground corridor, six years of bitter rivalry detonates into a reckless kiss. They strike a dangerous arrangement to satisfy the tension: they only cross the line when they play each other, and the winner dictates the terms behind closed doors.

But as the physical stakes escalate and the lines between competition and passion blur, Imani discovers the truth about Celeste's failing shoulder. Suddenly, the game is no longer about winning a Grand Slam. It's about how much they are willing to risk for a love that could cost them both everything.
