Mermaid Mayhem

A Weird & Whacky Florida Mystery

🧜‍♀️ A mermaid vanishes during a live underwater show.

🦩 A flamingo becomes the star witness.

🌴 Only in Florida could both be true.

When eccentric socialite Babs Butterfield bursts into Danny “Gumbo” Malone’s office reporting that her prize flamingo, Cornelius, has witnessed a crime, Gumbo assumes it’s another day in Cedar Key's ongoing parade of Florida weirdness.

Then a mermaid disappears.

And someone is willing to kill to keep the truth underwater.

What begins as a missing-bird case quickly plunges Gumbo into one of his strangest investigations yet—a bizarre conspiracy involving the legendary Weeki Wachee mermaids, stolen park revenues, exotic animal smuggling, environmental corruption, secret underwater tunnels, and a ruthless criminal mastermind known only as The Commodore.

With help from psychic free-spirit Zelda "Z-Ray" Zinfandel, Hurricane Hank, Cornelius the monocled flamingo, and an unforgettable cast of Gulf Coast eccentrics, Gumbo must survive:

🌴 Underwater tourist attractions with criminal side hustles

🚤 High-speed Gulf Coast boat chases

🎭 Undercover operations disguised as live mermaid shows

💰 Embezzlement, corruption, and organized crime

😂 Enough Florida insanity to make "Florida Man" seem perfectly normal.

As the investigation races from mangrove islands and forgotten marinas to pirate auctions, hidden grottoes, retirement villages, and the iconic springs of Weeki Wachee, Gumbo uncovers a conspiracy stretching far beyond a single murder. Behind the sequins, synchronized swimming, and tourist attractions lurks a dangerous criminal empire built on greed, deception, and Florida's endless supply of bizarre distractions.

Packed with laugh-out-loud humor, razor-sharp dialogue, cinematic action, eccentric characters, and nonstop twists, MERMAID MAYHEM is another wildly entertaining adventure in the Gumbo Malone Florida Mystery Series.
