About this ebook

Michael was the youngest in his family, just eight years old, and loved to watch his favorite TV show called Dark Shadows. But love might have been the wrong word. Perhaps obsession was more accurate. Perhaps terror masquerading as fascination. Each afternoon at four o'clock, he would plant himself inches from the flickering television screen in the living room, the curtains drawn tight, the shadows growing longer across the walls as the opening theme began its ominous melody.

Michael's older brother David and his sister Susan would regularly sneak up while he was watching Dark Shadows in the dark and scare him—their cold hands suddenly gripping his shoulders, their voices dropping to guttural whispers in his ear. Even though his brother and sister did an excellent job scaring him, what truly haunted Michael, what seeped into the marrow of his bones and nested there like something alive and feeding, was the vampire, Barnabas Collins. Those pale, aristocratic features. Those eyes that seemed to see through the television screen directly into Michael's soul. That voice, cultured and gentle, promising damnation with every syllable.

At night, when Michael would get under the covers, he would shake like a leaf and slowly pull the blankets over his head, creating a fabric tomb that somehow felt safer than the exposed darkness of his room. His breathing would grow hot and stale beneath the sheets, but he wouldn't dare emerge. Michael's bedroom didn't have a door—just a gaping rectangular void that opened onto the hallway, a mouth that swallowed light and exhaled darkness. The absence of that barrier, that final protection between himself and whatever walked the house at night, terrified him beyond words.

One stormy night, when Michael was lying in bed trying to sleep, the wind howling like something wounded and dying, he saw a black cat walk across his window ledge just as the lightning tore open the sky. But it wasn't the cat that froze his blood. It was how the cat moved—backwards, its head twisted at an impossible angle, its eyes reflecting not the lightning but something else, something red and hungry. The thunder that followed felt like it was coming from inside his chest.

I have my thoughts on how Little Micheal could have died. But if I told you it would ruin the end of your book 📖. I would like to say that The young child no longer has to be afraid of 5he darkness anymore. on the other hand his brother and sister won't be sleeping 😴 with the lights off 📴 for a very long time. they also won't be joking about someone dying as well because I believe that this tragedy is something they will think about for a while as they each think about the last thing they said to their brother. Michael's fear just became their nightmare.

After reading the first book, I was really looking forward to this book and now I know why Michael was afraid of the dark. Adults and teenagers will enjoy this book but a parent should read before letting a child who is already afraid of the dark read it.
