Samuel Chatwin is a translator specialising in the literature of Northern and Eastern Europe. His work focuses on recovering overlooked masterworks of world literature — novels and stories that shaped their national cultures but never found an English readership. He translates for Haberdash Books.
Juhani Aho (1861–1921) was one of Finland's most celebrated writers, widely regarded as the father of Finnish prose. Born Johannes Brofeldt in Lapinlahti, he adopted the pen name Aho — the Finnish word for meadow. His work spans novels, short stories, and essays, blending realism with lyrical naturalism. Rautatie (The Railway, 1884) remains his most beloved work, a quietly profound meditation on a changing Finland.
