The mind behind this story was Lucy Maud Montgomery, born in Canada in 1874. Raised by her strict grandparents in a rural community, Montgomery spent a lonely childhood finding comfort in the stunning natural landscapes, her own wild imagination, and poetry. Like her famous heroine in the beloved Anne of Green Gables series, she worked as a schoolteacher in various island villages before devoting herself to writing. Published in 1936, decades after readers first fell in love with Anne, this novel lets Montgomery revisit her most famous character with fresh warmth and gentle humour.
