American Psycho

Much more graphic and intense than the film, but that's not necessarily a good thing. The social commentary is a bit more detailed which was nice to dive into. However, the some of the violence reads like something an edgy teen would have written in their murder-fantasy journal. Can't say I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't discourage someone from reading it if they're curious how it compares to the movie.

The inner monologue writing style was interesting, but all-in-all, this was a pretty painful read. Comes across as a nonsensical, gratuitous snuff novel. I feel that the point of the novel could have been made even if the very intensely gory and pornographic scenes were toned down. It was on my reading bucket list, but I don't think I could ever be convinced to read it a second time.

I didn't really understand the reason behind putting the chapters about the two bands in the book. I skipped over those chapters. But other than that, it was awesome. People complain about the book being gross and disturbing but what do you expect? The title is American Psycho afterall. Made me cringe at some points but to me, thats a good thing. It meant the writer did what he was supposed to do to describe the disturbing parts of the book.
