Wikipedia mentions that Jack Vance said several times that Jeffrey Farnol adventure stories were a major influence on him. I bought this collection on speculation that it might contain some adventure. Evidently Farnol is also known for his romance books. The first book in this collection is The Amateur Gentleman, perfectly suitable for old men with youth in their hearts, or young men craving action. It reads like a cross between Dickens and Wodehouse. Full of great characters and stirring descriptions of the black squalid streets of London. Anyone who loves good dialogue will have a wonderful time. Highly recommended!!!
