Being You

Blended families work only if everyone is happy with them. Kate was the daughter of a single father. She had barely any contact with her mother and when she did; it was toxic. Her mother seemed to have some sort of agenda at getting even with the girl when Kate had done nothing to the woman. The older woman even had set up her daughter with her own stepfather and stepbrothers, and that led to a few years of no contact. However, when her mother found out where she worked that all changed. The torment was always there in the back of the girl's head. She had become too well versed in moving with no notice.

So when it happened again this time worse than the others. Kate was gone from the area within a few hours and went to the only place she knew she would be safe. Her father's house and the small town she had grown up in.

That was where her life changed. The woman who had been hired to take care of her and her father had recently gotten married. One of her many step brothers was there when she arrived and as it stood, he was more than happy to help his younger step sister out with a place to stay. Max was the one thing she needed. He was ready to stand in front of her if her mother tried anything, and it helped that he was in the police force for the area.

Only when she could relax could she see that things were different between the two. Kate knew Max, and the same was true. So when he kissed her everything changed once again.
