A soldier gives up everything to raise the children another person is slowly convincing him he doesn't deserve. A Victorian preacher fills stadiums while privately negotiating with a darkness he never learns to name. A nurse turns her kitchen table into a forty-seven-year refuge for anyone who needs one. A beloved rural clinic discovers that love, without accountability, can hurt the very people it meant to protect. A psychologist fights a probation system built to process people instead of understanding them. A father and his two daughters, snowed into a mountain cabin, finally say the things five years of silence has kept buried.
Tiffany Solter, PhD, brings the six narratives of the Focus! Let's Take a Stand! series together for the first time, framed by a Jungian meta-analysis that reveals the architecture underneath every one of them, and closes with a direct, practical call to action for readers ready to do more than feel moved.
This is not a book about six people who overcame something and left the rest of us to feel inspired. It's an argument, built story by story, that your own wound and the systems you live inside are not separate things; that healing one strengthens the possibility of healing the other; and that the bench, the kitchen table, the open door, exists wherever you're willing to build it.
“The wound and the world are not separate. What happens in the privacy of one marriage, one clinic, one family's kitchen is never just private. It is the world, at a smaller scale, waiting to be seen.”
TIFFANY SOLTER, PhD, is an author, advocate, mental health professional, and ordained minister, and the founder of Solter Adventures. She is the author of the six books collected and examined in this companion volume. She lives and writes at Camelot, her home in North Carolina.
Live Authentically and Create Magic.
Tiffany Solter, PhD is a mental health professional, educator, advocate, and lifelong seeker of magic whose writing explores the boundaries between life, death, justice, and the profound connections that define us. Born into a family of mountain people spanning Wyoming and Colorado, she grew up shaped, largely, by two grandmothers who taught her, one through train journeys across the West, the other chasing shooting stars across the plains, that anything is possible.
A survivor of a near-death experience in 1996, Solter spent decades integrating what she encountered in that "warm place where light is everything" into a life of healing work, academic achievement, and fierce advocacy. She holds a doctorate with a dissertation on grace and recovery, and has worked alongside peer counselors, nurses, and mental health teams she considers among the most transformative teachers of her life.
Her advocacy voice is unflinching and deeply personal. In "Be a Man": The Violence Society Ignores, Solter turns her clinical expertise and lived experience toward a crisis our culture has long refused to see: domestic violence against men. Drawing on research, survivor accounts, and her own family history, she challenges the archetypal and institutional blind spots that leave male victims invisible, unbelieved, and without adequate resources. The book is equal parts gripping fiction, Jungian psychological analysis, and practical call to action. It is complete with resource guides for survivors, supporters, military families, and children. It is the work of someone who has sat in clinical rooms with these men, loved them as family, and refused to stay silent.
She lives in what she calls Camelot, a home she and her husband Jeff manifested in childhood whispers, surrounded by family, familiars, motorcycles, and what she simply calls the magic.
“Between Worlds” is her memoir. "Be a Man" is her battle cry.
