“Deeply discomfiting, imaginatively ripe, yet ruthlessly efficient [with] claustrophobic terror that almost transcends articulation . . . Simply put—and I do not say this lightly—Incidents Around the House is the most purely effective horror novel I have ever read.”—Neil McRobert, Esquire

“This book is the monster that lives inside your closet.”—Grady Hendrix, New York Times bestselling author of How to Sell a Haunted House

LOCUS AWARD FINALIST • BRAM STOKER AWARD NOMINEE

To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?”

When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay.

Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

But Other Mommy needs an answer.

Incidents Around the House is a chilling, wholly unique tale of true horror about a family as haunted as their home.

for starters I would've given this book 2.5 stars if that was an option because the initial start to the book keeps you on your toes and makes it hard to stop reading. it is unbelievably chilling reading the descriptions of all the nefarious activities of the entity from the perspective of an 8 year old child and I love that. however the lack of quotations and all the random gaps make it a little harder to read, I understand that it was done for style but I truly think he could've added some quotations and it would be made for an easier read with nearly the same effect. and the real reason I couldn't give this book the full 5 stars that I thought I would give it for the first 3/4 of the book is because the ending is trash. many reviews say the same and I wish I would've read them before purchasing. the ending leaves you on a very disappointing cliff hanger. I had such high hopes for this book only to feel like I wasted my time because I'm so deeply disappointed with how it ended. if you choose to read it anyway it does have an amazing storyline at first, I'd just say don't have high hopes for the ending.

you can tell this was written by someone who doesn't have kids. and that bothered me because how old is this child? she's using a toddler potty seat but also getting bad grades on book reports? the first half was good enough to keep me going and I look forward to seeing the movie.
