About this ebook
In this satirical tale, Machado de Assis reinvents the creation of the world by attributing it to the Devil, who shapes the Earth with ambition and irony. In an attempt to repeat his symbolic triumph, he sends the serpent to offer the dreaded apple to Adam and Eve, and in a surprising gesture, both refuse the temptation, deviating from the expected script. This humorous biblical parody, told during a dinner party, completely reshapes the contours of human history, generating great curiosity among its listeners.
