About this ebook

Your life is a story whether you're writing it or not. The Story Solution shows you how to take the pen.

Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant have spent more than a decade building worlds, plotting story arcs, and shaping characters readers can't put down. They've written more than a hundred novels between them. They've taught hundreds of authors how to do the same.

Now they're turning the toolkit they use to build fiction on the only story that actually matters: yours.

Inside, you'll learn how to:

Treat your life like a story you're writing, not one happening to you

Find your narrative. The through-line that makes your choices feel like choices, not drift.

Build your character the way novelists build theirs: deliberately, with stakes

Identify your antagonists and what they want, so you can stop being surprised by them

Plot your acts. Including the ones you keep wanting to skip.

Edit ruthlessly when the story you've been telling yourself stops serving you

If you've ever felt like life was happening to you, The Story Solution hands you the pen.

Pair with Write. Publish. Repeat. and The Fiction Formula if you want to use these tools on the page. The Story Solution uses them on the life behind the page.

Includes the free Story Solution Workbook with 13 exercises plus Your Story Blueprint, the Genre Therapy worksheet, the Plot Points Beats Sheet, and the Theme Compass. Together they turn the book into a working plan for your own story.

Find your narrative. Transform your life. The Story Solution.

About the author

Sean M. Platt has written over 200 books, built multiple businesses, and spent seventeen years learning the difference between publishing and building — mostly by doing it wrong first.

He is the co-author of Write. Publish. Repeat., the bestselling book on self-publishing; co-host of The Smarter Artist Show; and founder of the IP consulting firm Where the X Goes. He believes the best creative careers are engineered, not hustled, and that the most valuable thing most creators own is something they haven't looked at closely enough yet.

Sean lives in Austin with his wife Cindy, who keeps him disciplined, and their dog Fisher, who does not. When he's not writing books, designing funnels, making music, or hanging out with Cindy, you can probably find him in the Think Tank — his daily bath, where most of the ideas in this book were born. No bubbles. Just hot water and his dangling participles.

Johnny B. Truant is the bestselling author of Fat Vampire, adapted by SyFy as "Reginald the Vampire" starring Spider-Man's Jacob Batalon. His other books include Pretty Killer, Pattern Black, Invasion, The Beam, Dead City, and over 100 other titles across many genres.

Originally from Ohio, Johnny and his family now live in Austin, Texas, where he’s finally surrounded by creative types as weird as he is. His website at JohnnyBTruant.com features his Creator Diary, additional works, fan extras, behind-the-scenes peeks, early access, and a whole lot more.
