Eudogio Fernandez is a productivity researcher, organizational design consultant, and the founder of Focus Forward, a consultancy that helps distributed teams build systems for deep work. Over the past fifteen years, he has worked with organizations ranging from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies, helping them navigate the transition to remote and hybrid work models.
Fernandez's approach to productivity is grounded in systems thinking rather than willpower or hustle culture. He argues that sustainable high performance comes from designing environments, rhythms, and boundaries that make focused work the default path, not from pushing harder or working longer. His work draws on research in cognitive psychology, behavioral economics, and organizational behavior, translated into practical protocols that teams can implement immediately.
Before founding Focus Forward, Fernandez spent a decade as a product manager and engineering lead at several technology companies, where he experienced firsthand the challenges of maintaining deep focus in open-plan offices, across time zones, and through the constant noise of synchronous communication tools. His frustration with the available productivity advice—which he found either too theoretical to apply or too focused on individual habits to address team-level dynamics—led him to develop the system outlined in this book.
Fernandez lives in Porto, Portugal, with his partner and their two children. When he is not studying productivity systems or working with clients, he can be found trail running along the coast, reading history and philosophy, or experimenting with new approaches to cooking. He writes regularly about remote work and productivity at his newsletter, *The Focused Week*, and speaks at conferences and company offsites on building effective distributed teams.
