Chuck Moore was born in rural West Virginia, grew up in New Mexico, and has lived in the small town of Willow, Alaska, for the past thirty years. He began his aviation career in the US Army as a teenager, flying in combat before the age of twenty-one, and was awarded two Silver Star medals for heroism. Since then, he has accumulated many thousands of hours of flight time and more than fifty years of experience. As a civilian flight instructor, he has taught flying skills to hundreds of pilots in small planes, and as a military instructor, pilot trained others in passenger jets and helicopters. He especially enjoys taking people on their first helicopter ride. They are always amazed at how different the experience is from flying in an airplane.
