About this ebook

C. H. Spurgeon was one of the most influential Christian preachers and writers on the gospel and the life of faith. A devoted pastor, evangelist, and author, he repeatedly urged Christians to resist temptation, remain watchful, depend upon God, and stand firmly against influences that weaken obedience to Christ.

Known for such Christian classics as All of Grace, Around the Wicket Gate, The Treasury of David, and Lectures to My Students, Spurgeon produced an extensive body of books and sermons. His earnest concern for Christian faithfulness continues to challenge readers to examine their beliefs and conduct in light of Scripture.

THIS IS NOT A REPRINT OF C. H. SPURGEON’S ORIGINAL WRITINGS.

More than a century has passed since Spurgeon addressed the Christian’s spiritual conflict. His call to vigilance remains relevant, while contemporary life presents circumstances requiring fresh application of biblical instruction. Digital distractions, widespread moral confusion, deceptive teaching, financial pressure, and strained relationships create daily occasions for compromise.

Armor Up is a twenty-first-century update drawing upon Spurgeon’s concern for steadfast Christian living. I have preserved that earnest purpose while substantially rewriting and expanding the material for readers today. The fourteen chapters examine spiritual conflict, Satan’s methods, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, readiness with the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, persevering prayer, protection of the home, integrity in work and finances, control of anger and speech, discernment concerning harmful influences, and endurance through opposition and discouragement.

Wherever possible, I have retained Spurgeon’s urgency concerning the spiritual health of Christ’s followers. However, the chapter titles, explanations, and applications have been revised according to the historical-grammatical meaning of Scripture, with practical attention to the responsibilities Christians face today.

My prayer is that this updated edition will encourage readers to examine themselves honestly by the Spirit-inspired Word, recognize and resist temptation, practice righteousness within ordinary responsibilities, and remain faithful to Jehovah through continued trust in Christ and obedience to His commands.
