About this ebook

Gail Carson Levine left her mark on fantasy with her well-loved Newbery Honor Book Ella Enchanted. Now she has created another shimmering and tapestried landscape of fantasy and fairies.

The two princesses of Bamarre couldn't be more different. Princess Addie is fearful and shy. Her deepest wish is for safety. Princess Meryl is bold and brave. Her deepest wish is to save the kingdom of Bamarre. They are sisters, and they mean the world to each other.

Then disaster strikes, and Addie—terrified and unprepared—sets out on a perilous quest. In her path are monsters of Bamarre: ogres, specters, gryphons, and dragons.

Addie must battle them, but time is running out, and the sisters' lives—and Barmarre's fate—hang in the balance.

  • A Tale of Two Sisters: Brave Meryl is her kingdom's warrior. Timid Addie just wants to be safe. When a deadly illness strikes Meryl, their roles must be reversed.
  • A Perilous Quest: To save her sister, Addie must journey into a land of magic and monsters, facing dangers she never dreamed she could survive.
  • Finding Courage: This is a timeless story about a shy princess who discovers the hero within when the person she loves most is in peril.
  • Classic Fantasy Adventure: Perfect for young readers who love epic journeys, dragons, gryphons, and stories where sisterhood is the greatest magic of all.

Literally just searched this book with the sole knowledge that it was for teens and there was a character I loved named Rhys. Found it and bought it immediately! Just read it again and now I remember why I loved it so much as a kid.

I really liked reading this book. It took a while for me to get pass Addie's fear of the outside world; but once her adventure started, the pace of the story picked up and became a more enjoyable read.

I first read this wonderful story in middle school when I stumbled across upon it in the school library. Ever since, I've read and reread every delightful page many times over. It never ceases to be thrilling, encouraging, and epic. It is absolutely worth the read.
