About this ebook

Collin Gosselin, one of the sextuplets from Jon & Kate Plus 8, breaks his silence to share the shocking story hidden behind the facade of a picture-perfect family.

“Collin's story is a powerful reminder that even our deepest wounds can become the foundation for growth, healing and hope.” —Jay Shetty

“As someone who knows firsthand the lasting impact institutional trauma can have on a young person's life, I was deeply moved by Collin's honesty and strength. So proud of Collin for turning his pain into purpose and powerfully sharing his story with the world.” —Paris Hilton

For years, the world watched Jon & Kate Plus 8 through a lens of curated joy. But while the cameras captured the milestones, they missed the moments that defined Collin Gosselin’s life: the Christmas morning where the gifts were reclaimed as soon as the cameras went down, and the basement room where silence was his only companion.

In the Shadow of Eight is the first account of a secret childhood lived in the gaps between the frames. Collin is finally sharing the truth about being held down, the basement cell where he was hidden for years, and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an eleven-year-old boy. This is a reckoning with the dark side of fame: the systems, the entourage, and the institutions that allowed one boy to be erased. This is the never before told story of how he escaped and found his way back from the dark.

Collin Gosselin, one of the sextuplets from Jon & Kate Plus 8, breaks his silence to share the shocking story hidden behind the facade of a picture-perfect family. “Collin's story is a powerful reminder that even our deepest wounds can become the foundation for growth, healing and hope.” —Jay ...

Collin is a phenomenal writer. He is able to articulate his experience in a way that you feel all of his emotions alongside him. I found myself reading for six hours solid and had to force myself to stop. So much can be said about the content of his book. Simply said, I believe every word. And I stand with him.

It took me about 2-3 days to finish Collin Gosslin's book. I needed to slow down once I hit the part of the book just prior to him being sent away. The abuse he suffered really shook me up. The book is written in a clear, descriptive manner without embellishing or being overly emotional but still conveying the deep, emotional wounds inflicted on him. The story is gut-wrenching. As a mother, I can not fathom treating your child in such a cold, calculating, heartless way. It is impressive that Collin has grown into an articulate, thoughtful and level headed young man. I am glad he could tell his compelling story. His story is important for another reason in this age of family Vloggers & 'influencers'. It's commonplace now for children to be filmed, often stripped of privacy & dignity while parents profit from the likes on social media. They need protected too.

I give Collin so much credit for not being afraid of telling the truth. Thank you Collin, for sharing your story and I hope you have a wonderful life, with or without your siblings. I know someday you will be the best father to your children. Stay true to yourself and I wish you the BEST!! Lisa S.
