I am very conflicted about this book; I'm worried my opinion may be tainted by the wait for it. I can't call this one of the great stories in the Halo series. It was of course wonderful to visit the Chief again. Joyeuse has so much potential as a character and that was honoured in this book. Browning's story alone can carry a novel or three. But this felt like a stopgap, not exactly a Halo story. The lack of violence wasn't a problem but noticeable, the world building enjoyable but far too much exposition. I'd call this a fun but lackluster addition to the series, and I hope new readers do not judge the incredible writer Gay on this book alone.

Nothing revealed was of any significance and the whole book felt like a trauma dump.
