No one remembered when the door first appeared.
It wasn’t there when the houses were built. It wasn’t there when the old well still gave clear water, or when children laughed freely in the narrow dirt roads between the homes. The villagers would have noticed something like that—a door standing alone where no wall should exist. But somehow, it came quietly, like a shadow stretching at dusk. No one questioned it at first.
They simply… avoided it.
The door stood at the edge of the village, half-swallowed by creeping vines and wild grass that grew too fast, too thick, as if trying to hide it. Its wood was dark—almost black—yet not with age. It looked damp, like it had been soaking in something unseen. Something that never dried.
And the smell…
No one ever spoke about it directly, but everyone noticed. A faint scent of iron, like old blood. Mixed with something worse. Something rotten, something that didn’t belong to this world.
