About this ebook

"Behind the Throne" by William Le Queux is an enthralling anthology that delves into the intricate world of power, deception, and moral dilemmas. The title story, "Behind the Throne," immerses readers in a captivating narrative of political fiction set in Italy and England. At its core is Camillo Morini, the Italian Minister of War, whose dual struggle with corruption and redemption paints a vivid picture of high-stakes political maneuvering. As he becomes ensnared in the deceitful plans of his Under-Secretary, General Angelo Borselli, the very foundation of the Italian army teeters on the brink of disaster. Morini's personal life is equally complex; his daughter Mary, full of life and unaware of her father's internal battles, adds depth to this tale of love and sacrifice. The lush English countryside and the grandeur of Rome provide a striking backdrop for this story of ambition and loyalty. Readers will be drawn to the timeless themes of integrity versus temptation, making "Behind the Throne" an unforgettable journey through the corridors of power and the human heart. This collection of love stories and adventure narratives is perfect for fans of political fiction and anyone intrigued by the allure of Italian settings. William Le Queux masterfully crafts a world where personal morality clashes with the demands of public life, ensuring that each page is as engaging as the last. Discover the compelling dynamics and richly drawn characters that make Behind the Throne a must-read anthology for those fascinated by the complexities of modern-day politics and personal choices. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.

About the author

William Tufnell Le Queux (2 July 1864 – 13 October 1927) was an Anglo-French journalist and writer. He was also a diplomat (honorary consul for San Marino), a traveller (in Europe, the Balkans and North Africa), a flying buff who officiated at the first British air meeting at Doncaster in 1909, and a wireless pioneer who broadcast music from his own station long before radio was generally available; his claims regarding his own abilities and exploits, however, were usually exaggerated. His best-known works are the anti-French and anti-Russian invasion fantasy The Great War in England in 1897 (1894) and the anti-German invasion fantasy The Invasion of 1910 (1906), the latter becoming a bestseller.
